Fall Treats

Pumpkin spice, pumpkin roll…………..pumpkin for your dog?

Well of course, we can’t have our best friends miss out on all the fall fun! Canned pumpkin is one of the simplest ways to add some fiber into your dog’s diet. Pumpkin also include vitamins that aid in skin and coat, the high moisture content allows the skin hydration and dead skin shedding throughout the winter. Pumpkin also encourages a healthy digestive system. If your dog is having an issue with loose stool or constipation pumpkin can aid in both issues. The ratio of pumpkin to your dogs regular diet is 1 to 4. Another good rule of thumb is 1 tsp of pumpkin for every 10 lbs. This is the highest amount of pumpkin your dog should consume. It is important to introduce pumpkin slowly into the diet, and to consult your veterinarian if your dog is on a special diet or has chronic health issues. These are just a few examples of why pumpkin is a simple but healthy addition to your dog’s diet.
